Event description:

A webinar on navigating career searches during tense international politics

This webinar focused on professions relating to and/or affected by U.S.-Russian relations and highlighted how graduates of Northeast U.S. institutions have navigated the start to their careers in the geopolitically troubled times of the past few years and of the Cold War’s escalation in the early 1980s. Our panel featured recent graduates as well as the Honorable Roman Popadiuk, first U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine, who entered the Foreign Service in 1981 after completing his advanced degrees at the CUNY Graduate Center.

Speakers:

  • The Honorable Roman Popadiuk (1973 BA from Hunter College, 1981 PhD from the CUNY Graduate Center), President of the Diplomacy Center Foundation and former first Ambassador to Ukraine
  • Gillian Kemmerer* (2011 BA from Columbia University, 2013 Masters from the London School of Economics, 2018 Alfa Fellowship in Moscow), Sports and Business Journalist (e.g. Asset TV’s Sportfolio and the Russian daily Sport-Express)
  • Joseph Millman (2017 BA from Swarthmore College, Master of Science in progress from the Georgia Institute of Technology), Security Engineer at Amazon and former Threat Intelligence Consultant at Recorded Future
